Local overview

Longview is the Gregg County seat in East Texas, on the Interstate 20 and U.S. Highway 80 corridor between Dallas/Fort Worth and Shreveport/Bossier City. The City says the railroad established the settlement in the early 1870s and that Longview incorporated on May 17, 1871, the first community in Gregg County to do so. The 2020 Census counted 81,638 residents; the Census Bureau’s July 1, 2025 estimate is 83,236, and its 2020 land area is 55.83 square miles. The City’s area-government resource identifies both Gregg and Harrison counties among the counties serving the Longview area. Downtown is the original 100 acres on which the city was founded and is a Texas Main Street community. This package distinguishes in-city facilities from regional/local-food options and does not imply that every resource is walkable from every address.

Explore Longview neighborhoods and local resources

These cited guides connect residents with recognized districts, walking routes, parks, local-food options, grocery planning, and public fitness resources. Each guide is written for the named market rather than generated by replacing a city name.

How local routines can support care

Walking routes, recreation programs, food-shopping options, sleep routines, and preventive care can complement—but do not replace—medical treatment. Discuss meaningful changes in diet, activity, or medication with an appropriate healthcare professional.
